There is a great horror unfolding before us as our Earth Mother continues to hemorrhage oil into the Gulf. Of course, the immediate danger is all the life living in the Gulf. Then it expands to the life in the Atlantic as the oil is carried up the Gulf stream into the Atlantic, which reaches the shores of Western Europe… and eventually, if we are somehow unable to join together to stop this rift of the hemorrhage of oil – eventually all of our waters, which are interconnected, will become tainted in varying degrees. This is not something we can ignore with the belief “it won’t affect me, because I live…”. We all depend on water, and if our oceans are full of sick, dying, and dead sea life, we are most directly affected. Over the last week, I have had the opportunity to work on organizing a comprehensive list of the major green organizations around the world. I have so far visited over 90 websites of such organizations, and most are quite impressive. So now I ask myself: we have the technology, we have the interest. What is preventing all of us from banding together and creating a definite solution to save our planet from extinction? Is there not a way to overcome the political mumbo jumbo BS that essentially translate into: how can the major company giants who control the top 95% of the finances (and resources) around the world benefit, which in turn support the operations of our government the same way it has through the decades (and which created this mess)? We are sadly past the time of delicate political maneuvering. Action needs to be taken immediately to prevent further contamination of the water. I am so deeply saddened and concerned by the way our governments have completely failed to recognize that if we are all polluted to death, what use are all the financial benefits in the continued, unabated exploitation of our Earth Mother? If some balance isn’t arrived at (that means taking actions that are not based exclusively on the amount of financial benefits gained) – we ALL lose. Louise Burfitt-Dons asks, can our heating cities cope with flash floods? With the recent oil spill in the Gulf being one of our nation’s worst disasters affronting our already abused Mother Earth, the time has never been more critical for how we can each of us work together in changing the ways we have lived to create the mess we have thus created. It is easy to blame BP for all of the events leading to this disaster, and its immediate aftermath, which has left our Earth Mother hemorrhaging oil into the Gulf and subsequently the ocean - and they should be held accountable for their own role. But we are all joined together in this. We have jointly contributed to creating the problem through our dependence on oil and its by-products… and we can jointly create solutions through our choices. We can each take part in contributing to a cleaner environment by taking personal responsibility for our own choices and actions, such as picking up the trash around where we live, and choosing to use products that support a healthier environment – eco-friendly house cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, and/or many others. The point is, if each of us chose to replace just a few items at a time for more environmentally friendly products, and became responsible for becoming more self-aware if how we each interact with our dear, patient Earth Mother, over a shorter time it creates a cumulative positive effect, just as our previous choices have cumulatively led to our environmental downfall. It’s all in the small and simple things we choose each day that makes the overall difference. So let us all live for the solution of cleaning up our Mother Earth – individually, but together. We are all in this together, and we each one of us count toward the solution, through the choice we consciously make. Regarding this most recent oil spill in the Gulf, we must think of helpful solutions, instead of simply pointing fingers. Nor does it help much to take actions such as boycotting BP gas, while Mother Earth lies hemorrhaging, as the oil is her life’s blood. Unfortunately, it has also become the life blood of our society. You see, to truly help the issue at hand is to look at the overall ‘reason’ of the oil spill, which is our dependence on it to run society and make life comfortable for us humans. To truly help would be to abstain from all use of petroleum: gas for all types of travel such as car, plane; heating; use of plastics… and the list unfortunately goes endlessly on. So since it is improbable we can stop our dependence – overnight – other ways of more effectively handling this sorrowful situation must quickly be considered. Blame does nothing, but love heals. One very significant way to help the cause is to send our love, our apologies (for all the rape, plunder and abuse of our Earth Mother), and our gratitude for her tolerance. The Hawaiians put this succinctly into a one word phrase: *Ho’oponopono, which, I’ve been told, loosely translates to: I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, Thank you. This one phrase, and our translation have been shown to “wreak” miracles. So let’s set miracles circling around our beloved, hemorrhaging Mother Earth by joining together in Love: Ho’oponopono I love you I’m sorry Please forgive me Thank you As we speak to Mother Earth, it may help the healing imagery to place our hands in a body of her waters, or at least stand in a natural area, and meditate, pray, sing, or chant these words and phrases – whatever feels most natural to you. The important thing to remember is to speak from the heart in communication with our dear Earth Mother. This is how we can directly help Mother Earth. *For more information on Ho’oponopono and where it comes from, check out: http://www.idreamcatcher.com/hooponopono/ There is also a beautiful song on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac5SGwRPv0o&feature=related This is a video of the San Isabel Forest in Colorado.
