  • Garmin Nuvi GPS Goes Green Garmin Nuvi GPS Goes Green

    • From: SteveBaker
    • Description:

Garmin goes “Green” with its latest free software upgrade for the overwhelmingly popular Garmin nuvi GPS series. As if the nuvi didn’t already do enough, they’re now helping motorists reduce fuel consumption. garmin nuvi gpsThe new software update is called, ecoRoute and it not only allows drivers to find the most fuel efficient routes to their destinations, but also helps drivers identify areas they can improve on by calculating fuel efficiency and running costs based on their driving style and then monitoring improvement progress.

Spokesmen at Garmin report that the development is a result of recent global trends. “Everyone is being eco-friendly these days. This development is because more and more people are looking to cut back on their carbon fuel emissions and their fuel consumption levels.”

“ecoRoute is always visible on your Garmin nuvi GPS screen so it allows you to drive with an increased awareness of your fuel economy and to adopt better driving habits,” states Jason Theunissen, the director of sales and marketing at Garmin’s distributor Avnic Trading.
      garmin nuvi
Once the ecoRoute software is downloaded and installed, drivers can access their vehicle profile, enter the car’s estimated fuel economy rates and the current price of fuel, and the Garmin nuvi will calculate their running costs and fuel efficiency based on their specific style of driving. ecoRoute will provide an option for “less fuel” to users as a routing preference. When “less fuel” is selected, the Garmin nuvi GPS will determine the most fuel-efficient routes based upon vehicle acceleration data and road speed data for a given route.

Additionally, Garmin’s ecoRoute fuel report will track fuel usage over time and the software will monitor mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis which allows drivers to conveniently keep track of fuel consumed and distance travelled for business reimbursements or taxable travel allowances.

ecoRoute also evaluates driving performance around acceleration, deceleration and speed, so drivers can identify areas for improvement and monitor their progress. It also offers a useful, yet fun, driving challenge which scores the driver’s driving style to determine whether they are driving efficiently and if there is room for improvement.
Currently ecoRoute is only available for select Garmin nuvi GPS models, specifically the 2x5 and 7x5 product ranges which include their top selling Garmin nuvi 255W.

The software can be downloaded on the Garmin website for free here.

    • Description:

My company, Humber Boats builds the Humber Foton.  This is a fishing style small runabout boat powered by a Torqeedo motor which gets its energy from a battery bank which are charged by two solar panels.  This boat is great for the fisherperson or just anyone who wants to give up gas on our lakes.  Check out our website at www.humberboats.ca to learn more about this great new boat.

Humber Boats was started in 1959 by the company president's father who retired in the mid 70's.  In 2006, currrent president John Rowley relaunched the company with The Humber Jewel, the most popular boat from the original company's days.  From the outset however, John had the ambition to build some kind of small affordable solar power boat.  That dream is now fulfilled and The Humber Foton is now in production and ready to start helping boaters save our lakes and rivers.

  • San Francisco Announces 10 Mil San Francisco Announces 10 Million Gallon Biodiesel Plant!

    • From: GreenTV
    • Description:

Hot on the heels of San Francisco’s recent celebration of locally-sourced Slow Food, Mayor Gavin Newsom announced a new plan to provide the city by the bay with a local source for sustainable fuel. On Friday the Mayor revealed a proposal between Darling International and the Port of San Francisco to retrofit an old rendering facility to produce biofuel. The new plant will recycle fats, waste grease, and tallow to generate 7.5-10 million gallons of biodiesel per year!

Port of San Francisco, Bio-diesel, biodiesel, Darling International, biofuel San Francisco’s proposed biodiesel plant would be situated within on old rendering facility in the Hunter’s Point district owned by Darling International. Under the plan the facility will be renovated to turn grease waste into useable, sustainable energy. Although the agreement has not yet been signed, it is expected that the city will purchase the fuel to cut down on shipments from the Midwest while feeding San Francisco’s biodiesel fleet of 1,500 vehicles.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has stated that: “This facility will serve as a model for cities throughout the world who aim to reduce their carbon footprint and transform their grease waste into useable, sustainable energy. Turning waste generated by local restaurants and other businesses into a sustainable fuel source is yet another major step in reaching our goals of carbon neutrality for City Government by 2020, zero emission public transit by 2020, a 75% recycling rate by 2010, and zero waste in 2020.”

  • Are you part of the Problem! Are you part of the Problem!

    • From: D1X

Here is a test that all you green people need to do to save resources and put money in your pocket.

      Equipment Needed: 0
      Brains needed: 0
      Savings: min 25%

All you have to do is just start driving 55.

We bought a 2008 Altima 2.5L rated @31 mpg, getting 28.6 mpg @ 70 mph, slowed down and got 42.2 mpg

      2002 F350 diesel getting 12.2 mpg @70, 22.2 mpg @ 55 mph. Towing a 3 horse trailer at 70 getting 10 mpg slowed it down to 55 got 16.2 mpg .

OK so let me know what you are getting on the highway. This is a slap in the Gov face that would save oil engery if everyone just slowed down about 30% world wide. Do you think that would have a effect?

Only proble you might have is what we had. Cars going at 70 passing you and honking trying to get you to go faster. How we solved it was to put stick on letters on the rear winshied saying 55 mph = 42.2 mpg
We have started seeing cars getting behind us now.
