Enjoy the photos of Villa Paraiso, our gardens and beautiful view.  We are very blessed to have been able to rebuild on steel stilts --- so we'll never flood again!  The pavers are reused from the old house and the roof shingles, drywall and damaged wood were ground up into the landscaping.

  • Radiant Heat Under Carpet. Yes Radiant Heat Under Carpet. Yes, you can!

    • From: GreenTV
    • Description:
The master bedroom walk it closet is the only place in the house we decided on carpet. We used the same low voltage electric radiant heat as we did under the bamboo laminate. Here you can see the carpet padding is put down first, then the matting and the carpet will go on top of that. When installing the carpet, you just have to be careful that the carpet stretcher/kicker doesn't go through into the radiant matting.

  • Kitchen Stainless Steel Back S Kitchen Stainless Steel Back Splash

    • From: GreenTV
    • Description:
We knew we wanted to carry the stainless steel theme thought the kitchen, so we opted for a flat sheet stainless steel back splash for the stove area. Since that's not an item you can easily walk into a home improvement center and load in your truck, we went to a local metal fabricator. I told them I needed a 3' x 8' foot piece and a 30" x 36" piece. Of course they were curious, so that asked what I was using it for. When I told them it was going to be the stove back splash, they said it was a first for them. We seamed the 2 pieces behind the vent hood, so it really looks like all one piece. I have to say we did go through quite a few blades and bits cutting the holes for the outlets and drilling the holes to screw it in with, but the end result is exactly what we were looking for.

The skinny green tiles in the tub border came from a local materials salvage/recycling center and started out as 2 inches wide. I cut each of those down to a half inch. Tell me that doesn't take some patience.

  • Master Bathroom with LV Electr Master Bathroom with LV Electric Radiant Heat under Tiles

    • From: GreenTV
    • Description:
Here's the completed master bathroom. The mirror on the left is actually a pocket door mirrored on both sides. The other side of the door is the walk-in closet. I had to talk the glass guys into actually making this for me. I couldn't just slap mirrors on both sides of a regular pocket door, it would make it too wide to fit into the pocket opening. So I made the framework and took it to the the glass company. I routed out a 2x4 to make the end cap molding and so I would have a place to attach the handle. This room also has low-voltage electric radiant heat under the tiles. We also installed this ourselves. All the electrician had to do was hook up the wires. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a warm floor when stepping out of the shower and you can see a foot of snow outside. It makes my feet happy!!

Starting the bamboo laminate on the corner of the step was tricky, but we got it. One of the amazing things about this flooring install is that we started at this corner, went all the way through the kitchen, rear prep kitchen, master bedroom, down the hall and into the library with out any transitions.

Finally, we found a low-voltage electric radiant heat that you can install under laminate floor or carpet. Here I'm laying out the mats and the laminate flooring will go on top of them. So you sandwich the mats between the underlayment and the flooring, minimizing heat loss through the bottom.

I work in commercial banking in loans and deposits. Our bank also consumer loans which can support renewable projects. My day time number is 302-757-3599. I am able to provide financing for green projects including solar, wind, geomthermal, and energy efficiency. I support wind, solar, and renewable energy. I believe the jobs, clean environment, and energy independence are all good for our country. I hope we build large scale wind projects in parts of our country like Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, and the Dakotas. Other projects like the offshore wind farm off Delaware, and other projects off of Massachussetts, New York, and New Jersey are also good for America. I have attended the National Renewable Energy Conference in Washington, DC, the Community Wind Power Conference in Albany, New York, and the Offshore Wind Power Conference in Wilmington, DE. They all were very good. I completed a Double B.A. in Ecomonics and History at the University of Delaware, and an MBA at Widener University with a concentration in Accounting. I am very interested in the ecomics of renewable energy, and support all tax credits to support the growth of this important industry. I have also served 23 years in the Army Reserve and National Guard, was a Commander in the 26th Yankee Infantry Division for three years, and retired as a Major. I believe the military should make every effort to use wind and solar power at all military bases, and for non-tactical military vehicles to support the industry. We need a renewable energy training center in the Delmarva region. The closest classes are at NC State, Appalacian State, North Carolina, and several schools in New York State. Delaware Tech, the University of Delaware, or other school could lead this effort.

  • Master Bathroom LV Radiant Hea Master Bathroom LV Radiant Heat Install

    • From: GreenTV
    • Description:
Low-voltage electric radiant heat from Warmly Yours in the Master Bathroom. It was easy to put down. All the electrician had to do was hook up the wires. In another photo you'll see we embedded the mats in thinset. Let that dry overnight, then put the tile down. The instructions say you can do it all in one step, but since this was my first attempt at LVE radiant heat AND my first attempt at tile, I thought it best to do it one step at a time. Both ways are acceptable according to the manufacturer. Warmly Yours was great to deal with. We emailed them basic dimensions and fixture placements and they told us exactly what we needed.
