    • Description:
At a time when power savings is a hot topic, LG has begun shipping the first televisions that qualify for the LCD TV Association's GreenTV logo. The logo program was designed to encourage TV makers to reduce power consumption, and to help consumers make an informed choice on what kind of TV they're going to buy.

Integral to program is that TV makers implement the use of ambient light sensors, which automatically lower the TV's brightness in a dark room by decreasing power to the backlight. This results in a power savings of 30 to 60 percent.

The LCD TV Association says that in the future, the program will expand to include goals of reducing set size (which in turn reduces the carbon footprint of a set via smaller designs and packaging); and making packaging environmentally friendly.

Amtran, LG Innotek, Rallypoint and RetrEvo Join “LCD TV Association”

Major TV Manufacturer Ships GreenTV Logo Certified TV sets,

Saving Consumers Up to 60% in Energy Consumption

Las Vegas, Nev., January 6, 2009 – The “LCD TV Association”, a global, not-for-profit marketing trade association chartered to inform, promote, improve and connect the entire LCD TV supply chain, today announced that AmTRAN, a major display OEM/ODM company, LG Innotek, a cutting edge provider of electronic components; RallyPoint, a leading provider of software and services for internet-enabled HDTVs; and Retrevo, an innovative website and match-making service for people and electronics for finding, buying and using CE gadgets and gear; have all joined the LCD TV Association to help provide even better values and solutions for consumers of LCD TVs.

In addition, the LCD TV Association also is pleased to announce that a major global TV manufacturer has recently begun shipping TVs which qualify for it’s GreenTV logo usage—becoming the inaugural company to do this (see our website at http://www.lcdtvassociation.org/greentv/certifiedgreentvs.html for more detailed information). The LCD TV Association’s GreenTV logo program was launched last year in an effort to help focus LCD TV manufacturers and brands on reducing the power consumption of LCD TVs and raising consumer awareness of this important issue. The program currently aims to work with major TV vendors to implement and promote ambient light sensors, which will automatically lower the set brightness in a dark room by decreasing power to the backlight—thus saving energy and actually reducing potential eyestrain as well. This can reduce power consumption by at least 30%, and as much as 60%, in current implementations. Participants in the program are awarded the right to use the Association’s unique GreenTV logo on products, packaging and advertising material to help consumers identify these specifically enabled and wonderfully featured sets.

In the future, this program will not only work to increase energy efficiency further, but help reduce the carbon footprint of LCD TV sets (via smaller designs & shipping boxes and thus better logistics costs), as well as make them more recyclable and ecologically friendly from the start (less heavy metals, etc.)—leveraging the best, innovative technologies from companies like Corning and Merck KGaA, as well as utilizing more LEDs for lighting, etc. Learn more about the Green TV logo program at http://www.lcdtvassociation.org/greentv.html . For an example of how consumers are learning about this wonderful program, please visit http://www.GreenTV.com .

“As we navigate through this current, but temporary, difficult economy, and progress through the U.S.A.’s digital TV transition by February 2009 with other countries to follow, it becomes even more important for the LCD TV industry and supply chain to join forces to advance the industry as a whole and provide the best possible value proposition for consumers. We are pleased to welcome AmTRAN, LG Innotek, RallyPoint and Retrevo to help us support this effort,” noted Bruce Berkoff, Chairman of the LCD TV Association. “We are also proud to see the first GreenTV logo enabled TVs from a major vendor (saving consumers up to 60% or so on some energy usage), and we will continue our efforts to help make LCD TVs even more “earth-friendly in the future,” Berkoff added.

    • Description:

GreenTV was invited to video and publish the coveted EPA's Annual Awards Event with mind-boggling, patented new energy saving, producing and energy storage technologies.

Some of the highlights are engine technology from LEHR that will change the current course of (ICE) internal combustion engines. From hand powered tools to the next generation of hybrids, see it here.

The Battery energy storage technology that you know of today is going the way of the VHS movie format.

Small and large scale energy production from common motion in land, air, sea, transportation and more.

Micro Bio fuels technology from non-feed stock sources reducing N.O.X/S.O.X. and production already implemented.

These are others will be endorsed and promoted by GreenTV because these are proven, patented technologies available now.

All who are true to positive change have patiently been awaiting the day money could not buy the influence to keep emerging technologies from coming to free markets. That day is here and now.

      Stay tuned..

More than two million Chinese youths die each …

BEIJING (AFP) – More than two million Chinese youths die each year from health problems related to indoor air pollution, with nearly half of them under five years of age, state media cited a government study as saying.

The study released by the China Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said indoor pollution levels can often be 5-10 times higher than those measured in the nation's notoriously bad outdoor air, the China News Service said.

This indoor pollution causes respiratory and other conditions that kill 2.2 million youths each year, one million of whom are under the age of five, the report said, citing the study released on Sunday.

AFP was not immediately able to obtain a copy of the study.

The study said dangerous indoor pollutants include formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia and radon.

It said formaldehyde posed the biggest threat. It is often found in building materials and new furniture in China and can be slowly released into indoor environments over the course of several years.

It said long-term exposure to such substances can cause a range of health problems including respiratory diseases, mental impairment and cancer, with young children, foetuses in utero and the elderly at most risk.

  • Green Planet - On the Backs of Green Planet - On the Backs of Converts

    • From: SeniorConsulting
    • Description:

No great social and, therefore, political movement has changed history without the sweat and equity of converts, masses of converts. Converts are newbies to a movement, like the millions that have become aware and are taking green and sustainable actions in their lives every day. The green movement is a human and planet movement critical to life as we know it. Yet it is not the visionaries like Fuller, Redford, and Gore that will make the difference - it is the masses of converts. I am a convert, and I expect (in this rare case!) that I am similar to many other converts and that tens of millions could and should follow.

In the US alone, we might have reached five percent of our capacity as citizens in living green and sustainable lifestyles. Already the converts outnumber the green stalwarts, and they will be ten to twenty-fold or more in numbers when and if so many going green lifestyle choices don’t require higher costs. Economic concerns of today further force so many day-to-day purchasing and living decisions, such as fuel, car, home costs and eating habits. We may have twenty or more sustainable or historically poor alternative choices to make each day, and perhaps ten of these a day involve a financial decision.

To magnify and accelerate the waves of converts struggling with day-to-day choices and the waves to follow, we need new and improved green products and services that cost the same as non-green options. Most of us will convert one product at a time, like some of the basics I have come to buy at my local Wal-Mart…green cleaners, some green paper products and pillows made of recycled plastics. Wal-Mart doesn’t change its philosophy for green products. All products must be a very good value to be on the shelves and a great value to be on prominent display like several green items I have seen there in the last six months. This philosophy permeates the collective mentality of the masses…good value and good value through innovation. To go one step further, with increasing public awareness, if the good value results in a green product that is the same price as an alternative, green will be the choice 80% or more of the time for all consumers.

In our response to many inquiries for business plans and related capital needs in 2008, we see a huge increase beyond the green interest of consumers and the press. More so, we see a 2-3 fold increase of green and sustainable entrepreneurs focused on innovation and technology, and investors are receptive. Yes, there are mostly converts, but you don’t have be a green icon to be a green leader.

Leaders and leaders-in-waiting are out there for thousands of green solutions. Improved governmental regulations and policies can help, but is green stalwarts and the waves of entrepreneurial leaders and converts that will lead the way in green, sustainable and organic solutions one solution at a time.

Timothy Cassidy, CEO of Senior Consulting, LLC- Our Business Advisors expect to be a key resource for stalwarts and converts, for innovators and leaders to accomplish worthy green and sustainable goals in viable business ventures.

    • Description:

My husband and I have started building a grain silo into a house. We started in February 2006 and are just now coming to the framing part. We are new to the whole green idea but want to use it throughout our build. Unfortunately we are newly weds and are low on funds and time. We only work on the silo on the weekends because I work and my husband works and is a full time student. Our problem thus far with building green has been finding product availability, that is affordable and is truly green. Hopefully by salvaging a forgotten grain silo (an existing structure), we are already helping the environment.

Philips and Starwood Sign Exclusive Green TV Deal

      • Deal estimated to be worth up to $100m in new equipment
      • Over $12m expected in energy savings

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) today announced the signing of an exclusive three year agreement with Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) to provide Philips latest range of SmartPower2 energy efficient televisions to Starwoods 460 properties across North America. The deal, which could be worth up to $100 million with existing opportunities and expected growth, will see industry-leading energy efficient televisions installed in new hotels and existing Starwood properties looking to convert to LCD TV technology for the first time.

In what is believed to be the biggest 'green TV' deal to date, this agreement is also expected to save the premier global hotel company more than $12 Million dollars in energy costs over the seven year lifetime of the equipment, and reduce energy consumption by up to 40 percent when compared with the televisions currently in use.

Philips will immediately begin installing these televisions, which are also available to consumers as the EcoTV. Taking the recently announced growth targets of Starwood North America into consideration, at least 80,000 Philips SmartPower2 TVs will be installed over the course of the next three years.

This partnership impacts such well known Starwood brands as St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Westin, Le Méridien, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton and Aloft. These Green TVs will also be included in Starwood's newest hotel brand, Element, which is at the forefront of green hoteling, having recently announced that each of its hotels brand-wide are required to pursue the U.S. Green Building Councils LEED certification.

"This is a defining agreement for us, and is indicative of the fundamental change in mindset we have implemented around procurement and sourcing, and the partners we want to work with to achieve this," said Paul Davis, Senior Vice President of Global Sourcing at Starwood. "Philips has shown us that it is easy to simultaneously provide our guests with the very latest technology while making a sound business decision that significantly impacts costs and reduces energy consumption."

Televisions were an important area to address for Starwood in its search for energy efficiency. Starwood estimates that the average hotel television is operating for six to eight hours every day. Anecdotal evidence highlights that guests regularly leave their hotel rooms without switching off their television, while many hotels also like to welcome guests with a personalized message on the television screen in their room.

This deal continues an already successful relationship between Starwood and Philips, which has also been the exclusive provider of energy efficient lighting to the hotel group for more than two years. This lighting includes compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs for hotel rooms, as well as other energy efficient lighting for areas such as lobbies and building beautification.

A comparison of hotel rooms reveals some staggering saving numbers. While configurations differ for each hotel, there is on average one television and three light bulbs in each room, using approximately 455 Watts of energy daily. Replacing these with the Philips SmartPower TVs and Philips energy efficient Compact Fluorescent light bulbs, and energy consumption is reduced to 153 Watts, just one third of existing energy needs.

Philips currently has more than 6 million TVs installed in hotels worldwide, its success largely due to product built specifically for the Hotel TV market. The segment has consistently grown for Philips over the last 25 years, and is of increasing importance as Philips leverages its combined professional and consumer expertise to offer integrated solutions for this industry.

"This partnership with Starwood highlights Philips ambitions to become a major sustainability and global innovation partner for the hotel industry," says Willem Houck, Head of Global Business Key Account Management for Philips Electronics. "Whether it be lighting lobbies around the world or choosing the right television when it is time for a replacement, we demonstrated to Starwood that there was no need to compromise on product quality in its goal to reduce the companys carbon footprint and achieve important environmental goals."

"For years we have been educating consumers around the world about how a simple switch in lighting can make a big difference to both their utility bill and the world's energy crisis. Now this simple switch is also available in the form of environmentally friendly televisions."

  • Recent Oil Disaster: Healing o Recent Oil Disaster: Healing our Earth Mother

    • From: blissful_sage
    • Description:

Regarding this most recent oil spill in the Gulf, we must think of helpful solutions, instead of simply pointing fingers.  Nor does it help much to take actions such as boycotting BP gas, while Mother Earth lies hemorrhaging, as the oil is her life’s blood.  Unfortunately, it has also become the life blood of our society.  You see, to truly help the issue at hand is to look at the overall ‘reason’ of the oil spill, which is our dependence on it to run society and make life comfortable for us humans.  To truly help would be to abstain from all use of petroleum: gas for all types of travel such as car, plane; heating; use of plastics… and the list unfortunately goes endlessly on.  So since it is improbable we can stop our dependence – overnight – other ways of more effectively handling this sorrowful situation must quickly be considered.

Blame does nothing, but love heals.  One very significant way to help the cause is to send our love, our apologies (for all the rape, plunder and abuse of our Earth Mother), and our gratitude for her tolerance.    The Hawaiians put this succinctly into a one word phrase: *Ho’oponopono, which, I’ve been told, loosely translates to: I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, Thank you.  This one phrase, and our translation have been shown to “wreak” miracles.  So let’s set miracles circling around our beloved, hemorrhaging Mother Earth by joining together in Love:

      Ho’oponopono

      I love you

      I’m sorry

      Please forgive me

      Thank you

As we speak to Mother Earth, it may help the healing imagery to place our hands in a body of her waters, or at least stand in a natural area, and meditate, pray, sing, or chant these words and phrases – whatever feels most natural to you.  The important thing to remember is to speak from the heart in communication with our dear Earth Mother.

This is how we can directly help Mother Earth.

*For more information on Ho’oponopono and where it comes from, check out: http://www.idreamcatcher.com/hooponopono/  There is also a beautiful song on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac5SGwRPv0o&feature=related

I was dying from terminal Cancer and given only a few weeks to live. My Cancer was caused by deadly air toxins. With Hospice at one side of my "Death Bed" and my wife on the other, I asked my wife (Lori Lake) for a dying mans last wish.

I asked Lori to utilize her IT talents to create GreenTV as free platform for people all over the world to learn and share how going green could improve life for all of the worlds inhabitants and the planet itself.

That was over ten years ago. I attribute my survival by stopping the Chemotherapy treatments that had ravaged my body. We also created WorldThinkTank.com as a way to reach out to the world to find a natural, "green" way for my body to heal itself.

Fast forward to today. The vision we had over a decade ago has now become mainstream.

GreenTV is one of the oldest yet fastest growing free green content sites. Our members videos and blogs are viewed by millions.

The biggest names in global media are now airing GreenTV members videos and finding stories through members profiles and blogs. Venture capital groups are funding our members green projects while foundations are providing free grant money to worthy green ideas.

GreenTV members help other members find and create green opportunities. A member driven GreenTV platform helping the planet and her inhabitants.

All from a dying mans "last wish"..

Our very best to you and yours,

      John and Lori Lake

  • IS THE NEW EPA FRIEND OR FOE? IS THE NEW EPA FRIEND OR FOE?

    • From: TheGreenList
    • Description:

Lisa Jackson, the new head of the EPA told millions of viewers of the Daily Show "Some are still out there who are skeptical to environmental protection".

This was just two nights after GreenTV covered the EPA's Clean Air Awards that featured very promising technologies and programs that are here, market ready.

Yet, what do you think? GreenTV has requested a follow up interview with Ms. Jackson to deliver your message to both her and our Presidential leaders because this is such an important issue.

In our Business to Business Eco-Entrepreneurs page we have received hundreds of horror stories (of the former EPA administration) from patent holding inventors to green businesses start-up's.

However, after covering the EPA Awards and hearing countless success stories with the new EPA, we would like your opinion. What do think about the new EPA? (to see the recent EPA Daily Show, click here)

Stay tuned as we follow this and remember, only you can make a difference in how the world can change for the better. For over 10-years, GreenTV has delivered your message and now, more than ever, it appears we have world leaders listening and seeing your relpies, blogs and videos here on GreenTV.

Let us keep the green movement headed in the right direction my making your voices heard.

  • The Perils of Plastic - Enviro The Perils of Plastic - Environmental Toxins - TIME

It gives me such a good feeling that after working on this issue for about 12 years that there is some hope soon. But how long will it take until our products are safe? I hope I see the time come when we have a safer world to live-- at least for our children's children.  I never thought I would spend my life talking about the dangers of chemicals, etc.

      Environmental Toxins

Chemicals in plastics and other products seem harmless, but mounting evidence links them to health problems — and Washington lacks the power to protect us.

      The Perils of Plastic

Young children are subjected to plastics in their every day life such as eating utensils, plates, bowls that might contain dangerous toxins.

On the first Earth Day, celebrated 40 years ago this month, the U.S. was a poisoned nation. Dense air pollution blanketed cities like Los Angeles, where smog alerts were a fact of life. Dangerous pesticides like DDT were still in use, and water pollution was rampant — symbolized by raging fires on Cleveland's Cuyahoga River, captured in a famous 1969 story for TIME. But the green movement that was energized by Earth Day — and the landmark federal actions that followed it — changed much of that. Today air pollution is down significantly in most urban areas, the water is cleaner, and even the Cuyahoga is home to fish again. Though climate change looms as a long-term threat, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day will see a much cleaner country.

But if the land is healing, Americans may be sickening. Since World War II, production of industrial chemicals has risen rapidly, and the U.S. generates or imports some 42 billion lb. (19 billion kg) of them per day, leaving Americans awash in a sea of synthetics. These aren't the sorts of chemicals that come to mind when we picture pollution — huge plants spilling contaminated wastewater into rivers. Rather, they're the molecules that make good on the old "better living through chemistry" promise, appearing in items like unbreakable baby bottles and big-screen TVs. Those chemicals have a habit of finding their way out of everyday products and into the environment — and ultimately into living organisms. A recent biomonitoring survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found traces of 212 environmental chemicals in Americans — including toxic metals like arsenic and cadmium, pesticides, flame retardants and even perchlorate, an ingredient in rocket fuel. "It's not the environment that's contaminated so much," says Dr. Bruce Lanphear, director of the Cincinnati Children's Environmental Health Center. "It's us." (See pictures of the world's most polluted places.)

As scientists get better at detecting the chemicals in our bodies, they're discovering that even tiny quantities of toxins can have a potentially serious impact on our health — and our children's future. Chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates — key ingredients in modern plastics — may disrupt the delicate endocrine system, leading to developmental problems. A host of modern ills that have been rising unchecked for a generation — obesity, diabetes, autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder — could have chemical connections. "We don't give environmental exposure the attention it deserves," says Dr. Philip Landrigan, director of the Children's Environmental Health Center at New York City's Mount Sinai Medical Center. "But there's an emerging understanding that kids are uniquely susceptible to environmental hazards." (See the top 10 household toxins.)

If scientists were slow to arrive at that conclusion, Washington has been even slower. The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the 34-year-old vehicle for federal chemical regulation, has generally been a failure. The burden of proving chemicals dangerous falls almost entirely on the government, while industry confidentiality privileges built into the TSCA deny citizens and federal regulators critical information about how substances are made and what their effects are. In the years since the TSCA became law, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been able to issue restrictions on only a handful of chemicals and has lacked the power to ban even a dangerous carcinogen like asbestos.

But change is coming. The Obama Administration is taking a closer look at chemicals, with the EPA late last month launching a new investigation into BPA. More important, Congress may finally be ready to act. New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg is expected to draft legislation soon that would give the TSCA the teeth it needs. "It's obvious that the system doesn't work," says Lautenberg. "We can't permit this assault on our children's health — and our own health — to continue." (See pictures of the effects of global warming.)

      The Low-Dose Threat
His name was Theophrastus Philippus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim, known to his contemporaries as Paracelsus and to students of science as the "father of toxicology." The 16th century Swiss physician pioneered the use of chemicals in medicine. His dictum "The dose makes the poison" — that even toxic substances can be safe as long as the amount remains below a certain threshold — is still a bedrock MUCH MORE at link...
