U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works :: Hearings

Yesterday they held hearings regarding the chemicals in our products. It was pretty interesting to hear the discussions and tesitmony. One mother spoke how she had trouble conceiving a baby so she started eating organic, watching how  much seafood she ate  and the products she used but she had the highest number of chemicals in her blood among ten that were tested.

Apparently it cost about $10,000 to test each person,  and each person had some 200 chemicals in their bodies among about 400 chemicals tested in all.

Someone spoke about the new law regarding corporations having more power in politics ( don't know the details on that). But one of the senators said what if they were running for office and they had been thinking of banning a chemical and what if a company came to them and threatened them that they would ruin him in the election if they banned a chemical. Kind of creepy to think that actually can go on. Those weren't his exact words but close enough.

They spoke of how they would like to put the burden on the companies instead of the EPA to test these chemicals --approximately 80,000.

They spoke of all the illnesses cancer, asthma, etc., caused by many chemicals,  but I am concerned there has been no mention of the so  many that are so sensitive to these chemicals. There are no funds at all for this illness. It is accepted by the ADA-- but that is about it.
